Three people have died in a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) among them a 10 year old which occurred yesterday in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt.
Six other passengers who also among them is a 10-months old baby are said to be in critical condition and are battling for their lives at Kalulushi General hospital as they sustained injuries.
Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Sharon Zulu said police received a report of a fatal RTA in which three people lost their lives, while others are hospitalised.
The accident is believed to have occurred when the Toyota Hiace was being driven from East to West direction and in the process was hit into by the Toyota Hilux which was being driven from the opposite direction after the driver of the Hilux failed to keep to his near side.
Ms Zulu said on board also was Natasha Kauzi aged 10 of Magum area, Kalulushi who sustained suspected internal injuries and was pronounced dead at Kalulushi Township Clinic.
“The accident occurred on Monday at around 21:00 hours along Kalengwa road opposite Napsa Housing complex, Kalulushi. Involved were two vehicles, the first being a Toyota Hiace registration number ACJ 8597 which had its front part extensively damaged and was being driven by Nkole Saviour Chilekwa aged 37 who sustained head injuries, suspected internal body injuries and was certified dead upon arrival at Kalulushi General Hospital,” she said.
“Other passengers are Chama Carol Katunase aged between 30-35 who also sustained internal injuries, Chilufya Chama aged 10-months of North Kalengwa, Kalulushi who sustained a cut on the upper lip and swollen head,Doris Namuchimba aged 37 who sustained deep cut on the right shoulder and suspected internal injuries,Fridah Chileya aged 39 who sustained a suspected fractured left arm and cut on the head, Charity Mwange aged 28 who sustained a cut on the forehead and another deep cut on the right leg and an unknown male adult of unknown abode who sustained head injuries and suspected internal injuries,” she said.
Ms Zulu said the passengers are all admited at Kalulushi General Hospital, while eleven others sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged from Kalulushi General Hospital.
“The second vehicle was a Toyota Hilux Registration number ABV 2445 which had its front part extensively damaged and was being driven by Lupiya Weagan aged 36 who sustained head juries, suspected fractured legs and arms and was also pronounced dead upon arrival at Kalulushi General Hospital,” she said.
