Dad kills a month old baby during a fight

A man of Luanshya has killed his one month two weeks old baby during a fight with his wife.

Copperbelt Police Acting Commanding Officer Sharon Zulu said the baby was assaulted and died from suspected internal injuries after the child’s father Gift Kaunda hit the minor in the process of wanting to beat the mother who had carried the child on her back but missed, causing it to start bleeding from the mouth.

Ms Zulu said on July 13, 2022 around 1900 hours Gift the accused saw his wife Astridah Mwape going to the market and asked her to go back home but she refused, which annoyed him and lead to a fight.

Ms Zulu said the accused intended to hit his wife with a fist but he missed and hit on the child that was on its mothers back.

She said both did not report the Matter to police and neither was the child taken to the hospital until on July 15, 2022 at around 1600hrs when the child started bleeding from the mouth.

Ms Zulu said the baby was taken to the clinic in Kawama Township were she was referred to Roan General Hospital but died on the way.

She said foul play is suspected and the victim’s body is at Roan General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.

Meanwhile man hunt for the suspect who is currently on the run has commenced.
