Govt want an out of court settlement over KCM

Government has directed ZCCM-IH to reach out to Vedanta Resources for an out of court settlement over Konkola Copper Mines -KCM.

Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe said ZCCM-IH should send its lawyers to engage their counterparts from Vedanta over the matter as government is interested in dialogue.

Mr Kabuswe said government cannot wait any longer adding that the next arbitration hearing is supposed to take place on January 9, 2023.

He was speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today.

Mr Kabuswe said government wants normalization at KCM as soon as possible.

The Minister also said that government will not tolerate investors who mistreat workers.

Meanwhile Mr Kabuswe said the audit of mining licenses was concluded and the report has been presented to President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr Kabuswe said the report will be presented at the next cabinet meeting and once its approved mining licenses will be opened.

And Mr Kabuswe revealed that Kasenseli gold mine will be opened at an appropriate time when the challenges are resolved. ZNBC
