Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has called for investigations into Covid-19 resources for a period of July 2020 to October 2021.
Speaking at a media briefing during the commemoration the African Union Anti-Corruption Day today, TIZ President Sampa Kalungu said the office of the Auditor General conducted an audit on the utilization of Covid-19 resources and TIZ analysed the audit report.
Mr Kalunga said the report noted that more than 7 hundred million Kwacha outstanding audit issues related to the management of Covid-19 funds under Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).
Mr Kalungu was speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today He said TIZ also noted that the ministry of Health has 1.98 billion kwacha worth of outstanding audit issues with respect to Covid-19 funds.
He said government has demonstrated political will in fighting corruption as seen in critical leadership changes at the Anti-Corruption Commission and Drug Enforcement Commission.
Mr Kalungu also said has appealed to government to also appoint a Director General at the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
