Six people have been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for trafficking more than 100 kilograms of heroin and cannabis concealed as baking flour and coffee creamer.
DEC Public Relations Officer Mathias Kamanga said that the six were arrested in separate incidents from Lusaka, Western Province and on the Copperbelt.
Mr Kamanga also said among those arrested is a farmer who cultivated the cannabis in his field.
He said , in Lusaka, the Commission has arrested Kevin Sissby Kaaya, aged 41 years of Obama Area for trafficking in 6.4 Kilograms of heroin.
“He was arrested at Intercity Bus Terminus after he was found with the contraband that was concealed in packs of coffee creamer and baking flour. The drugs came into the country from South Africa,” he said.
Mr Kamanga said on the Copperbelt Province, the Commission arrested James Malele, aged 36 of House No. 1988 in Chimwemwe Compound for trafficking in four sacks of cannabis with a total weight of 40kg.
He said the drugs are believed to have come into the country from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
And In a related incident, the Commission has arrested Pelekelo Byemba, aged 52 and three others of Lalafuta Area in Nkehema District of Western Province for trafficking in 8 x 50 kg bags of cannabis with a total weight of 143.8kg,” he said.
Mr Kamanga also said that Byemba is a farmer who cultivated the cannabis in one of his fields.
