US appoints ambassador to Zambia

Outgoing United States Charge D’ Affairs Martin Dale has announced that the newly appointed American Ambassador to Zambia Michael Gonzales is expected to arrive in the country next month.

Mr Dale said following the confirmation of Mr Gonzales by the United States Congress, the American envoy is likely to take up his post next month.

Speaking during his farewell to President Hichilema at State House, Mr Dale said serving in Zambia was an honor for him.

And President Hichilema praised Mr Dale for standing up and providing leadership following the departure of the last American Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote two years ago.

President Hichilema said the United States has been a good partner with Zambia in many spheres.

He said Zambia is building on its democratic credentials so that it can fight poverty and develop the nation.

President Hichilema said government is working hard to ensure that it promotes trade and investment which are critical to fighting poverty.
