Two people died while two others survived with injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in collided head-on with another vehicle along Great East Road.
Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said the accident occurred Saturday night at around 23:30 hours near Marshland area along the Great East Road in Lusaka.
“The deceased persons, male and female are believed to be aged between 20 and 25, but have not yet been identified, while the injured victims have been identified as Agness Musonda aged 23 of North Gate in Garden Compound and the driver of the Toyota Allion identified as Micheal Habanyama aged 34 of unknown house number in Kaunda Square,” he said.
Mr Mwale said preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when Micheal Habanyama lost control of his vehicle.
“Mr Habanyama whilst driving a Toyota Allion registration number BAF 4525 with Three passengers on board from the western direction heading towards Munali Roundabout lost control of the vehicle causing it to ‘jump over’ the pavement and went in the opposite direction (lane) and collided head-on with an Isuzu van registration number ABH 9686 which was heading towards East Park direction from Munali roundabout,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the whereabouts of the driver of the Isuzu van is not known, but that both vehicles were extensively damaged.
“Bodies of the deceased were deposited in the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem while the injured victims are receiving treatment at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital,” he said.
