A 54-year-old man of Swiss Nationality has been apprehended after the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) intercepted a scam in which he attempted to export re-packaged and misbranded medicines without a permit.
Daniel Waldvogel who is a Director at Health support Zambia, a registered pharmaceutical outlet was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport after he failed to provide an export permit authorising him to export the assorted medical products.
ZAMRA Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Iliamupu says the suspect was apprehended, warned and cautioned for abrogating the Law.
“The suspect has since been released on Police bond and awaits a court appearance. We further wish to restate that illegal exportation and importation of medicines is an offence prosecutable by Law,” she said.
Ms Iliamupu said that the list of the seized products are 190 boxes (10 x 10) labeled Aspirin delayed release tablets ,242 Silver packets containing white tablets, 388 boxes (10 x 10) of Famical-D Tablets, 133 blister (54 x 10) packs of mifepristone tablets and 4 white containers containing white tablets labeled as Vitamin A.
“Furthermore, the Authority will take regulatory action against Health Support Zambia for contravening standards of pharmaceutical practice and wish to sternly warn would be offenders to desist from the vice,” she said.
