A joint team of inspectors from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), Chinsali Municipal Council (CMC) and Ministry of Health (MoH) have seized assorted goods worth K18, 654.
The inspections covered 26 business outlets at Chinsali’s Central Business District (CBD) in Muchinga province and on 10th to 12th and 19th May, 2022 respectively.
CCPC Public Relations Officer Rainford Mutabi said the assorted products seized include foodstuffs and cosmetic items such as carbonated drinks, milk, butter, and body lotion and hair products among others.
Mr Mutabi said the goods were expired and not fit for human consumption.
He said selling or offering for sale products not fit for purpose or expired is against the Competition and Consumer Protection Act, as well as the Food and Safety Act.
“In light of this, the CCPC, CMC and MoH wish to warn all suppliers, retailers and distributors to seize selling unsuitable products which have exceeded their shelf life,” he said.
Mr Mutabi said Traders are also advised to abide by the law and desist from engaging in unfair trading practices or any conduct that erode consumer welfare.
He said CCPC, CMC and MoH will continue working together and enforcing their respective mandates.
