Temporal Truck Stop to be set to decongest Kitwe-Chingola road

Chingola District have identified Nchanga Motor cross as a temporal Truck stop to decongest trucks that have parked along Chingola-Kitwe road, waiting to be cleared at Kasumbalesa boarder post.

Kitwe-Chingola road has trucks stuck along the road waiting to be cleared at Kasumbalesa boarder post, the situation which is heavily affecting traffic flow for truck drivers and others roads users.

Speaking after a joint assessment of the situation Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe in the company of Chingola District Commissioner Mr Raphael Chimupi and the District Joint Operations Committee (DJOC) yesterday he said the Local Authority together with the district leadership are concerned with the situation.

Mr Kang’ombe said that to decongest the Chingola-Kitwe road a temporal Truck Stop along Chililabombwe road has been identified at a small fee to prevent unsanitary conditions.

He said portable toilets will be set and Mulonga will be engaged to provide water to the area to encourage good sanitation and use of safe clean drinking water.

And Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi has appealed to truck drivers to desist from parking in the Central Business District (CBD) and other undesignated places.

Mr Chimupi said that sanity within the district should be maintained.

Other cooperating partners such as Mineral Link have come on board to aid in, so that the operation of the truck stop can begin as soon as possible.

Copperbelt Province Minister had a series of meetings with the leadership in DR Congo to see how best to handle this problem and the long queues will soon come to an end beginning next week as DRC has committed to work overtime to decongest marooned trucks.
