3 convicted for theft of ZAFFICO logs

Three persons have been convicted for theft of pine logs and stems from Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation PLC (ZAFFICO) plantations in Chambishi and Mushindamo respectively.

Bwalya Bewalya 42, of Chingola has been convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Chambishi Magistrate Court.

Mr. Bewalya was apprehended by ZAFFICO Security on April 27, 2022 and charged with the theft of 105 pine salvage logs (a by-product of pine stems) of various diameters valued at K5, 122 from Ichimpe Plantation.

In another case the Solwezi Magistrate Court has convicted Aaron Kalaile and Prince Katongo of Shafilunda area in Chief Kalilele, Mushindamo district for the theft of young trees valued at K3, 080.

The duo has been convicted and sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment with hard labour

ZAFFICO reiterates its call to members of the public to desist from illegal cutting of trees from its Plantations. The Corporation will continue enhancing its security measures and ensure that offenders are dealt with in accordance with the Law.
