MORE LOCAL TV CHANNELS ADDED TO THE TOPSTAR PLATFORM

TopStar Communications Company Limited has added two more (02) local television stations to its platform. This brings the number of local TV stations on TopStar Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform to 40 local channels. The new television stations are Flava TV and Maluba TV whose areas of coverage is currently in Lusaka.

The areas of broadcast as outlined are in line with the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) signed between TopStar and the Content Service Providers (CSPs), who in this case are the Television stations as to which areas they may wish to transmit their content.

The addition of the two local TV stations, will increase the number of their audience reach and will expand coverage of their news, information and entertainment in areas never reached before.

The last eight months has seen other TV stations expand their coverage from a specific to areas along the line of rail, provincial headquarters and countrywide.

Power TV and Crown TV are now on the Direct To Home (DTH) and StarTimes On App; Sun FM TV is countrywide on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT); KNC has now extended coverage to Lusaka, apart from Kapiri Mposhi and Kabwe; North West, Chipata, City and Beats TV are along the line of rail and the provincial headquarters.

As a Public Signal Distributor, TopStar mandate is to distribute signal to content service providers, rendering them with a countrywide coverage on a non discriminatory basis.

TopStar Public Relations Manager Joy Chula said the addition of the two local channels signifies the important role the company plays in distributing signal for Zambian households to access information and enjoy affordable digital TV.

“The more local TV channels we have, the higher the number of Zambian households will be able to access affordable TV and local content that impacts the development of various communities through experiences and dissemination of information,” Ms Chula said.
Flava FM a popular Radio station on the Copperbelt has extended its audience reach to TV. Station Manager James Chishinji said they were excited to be on the TopStar platform as it extends their coverage.

“It is good and a huge progress for us as Flava TV as it gives our viewers and listeners both visual and audio representation of what we do plus extending our reach to Lusaka” Mr Chishinji said.

Maluba TV Chief Executive Officer Rose Sibisi said TopStar is a wide coverage platform that will assist to bring the vision and dream to life as it will help the station grow rapidly with measured milestones as a privately owned women’s channel.

“As a new TV Station our expectations are to create awareness of who we are, as a unique women inspired channel with the support of TopStar. We expect to grow our viewership for our Channel through the TopStar platform which is widely viewed in Lusaka and across the country” she said.
