PUBLIC DISCLOSURE MEETINGS FOR THE PROPOSED CAPACITY EXTENSION OF MUNTIMPA TAILINGS STORAGE FACILITY (TD5) AT NCHANGA MINE IN CHINGOLA

Konkola Mineral Resources Limited (KMRL) is a subsidiary of the Konkola Copper Mines Plc which is one of Africa’s largest integrated copper producers.

KMRL owns and operates Muntimpa Tailings Storage Facility (TD5) at its Nchanga Mine in Chingola on the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. The facility is located South of Chingola and has the original design capacity of 534.8Mt, which is almost depleted. As such, KMRL intends to undertake a project to increase the capacity of facility within the existing foot print from the original design capacity to an ultimate capacity of 780Mt.

Prior to developing the project, KMRL is required to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Study in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 read together with the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, Statutory Instrument No.28of 1997.

Incompliance with the statutory requirements as provided in the environmental legislation stated above, MRL is inviting Government Agencies, the Local Authority, Non-governmental Organisations and Community based Organisations, Interested and Affected Parties and the general members of the public to a Public Disclosure Meetings.
