The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and Mushindamo Municipal Council (CMC) have seized assorted goods by a joint inspection team comprising.
The inspection was conducted in ten trading premises of Mushindamo’s Central Business District (CBD) of North-Western Province on March 30, 2022.
CCPC Public Relations Office Rainford Mutabi said the seized goods include Black Panther, Energizer and Bibe Cola energy drinks as well as Cremica, Vanilla and Baby Biscuits among others.
Mr Mutabi said the goods were expired and therefore not fit for human consumption.
He said selling or offering for sale products not fit for purpose or expired is against the Competition and Consumer Protection Act as well as the Food and Safety Act.
“CCPC and MMC wish to warn all suppliers, retailers and distributors to seize selling unsuitable products which have exceeded or are close to reaching their shelf life,” he said.
Mr Mutabi said that traders are also advised to abide by the law and desist from engaging in unfair trading practices or any conduct that erode consumer welfare.
Meanwhile, CCPC and MMC will continue working together and enforcing their respective mandates in a quest to ensure trader’s compliance with the law and consumer protection in Zambia.
