Minister of Labor and Social Security Brenda Tambatamba says about 2.9 Million Workers die every year due to occupation accidents and diseases.
And 402 million people suffer from non fatal occupation injuries.
Speaking during the commemoration of the world day for safety and health at work Ms Tambatamba said the number of non fatal injuries rose from 1,000 to 1,168 from 2018 to 2019 .
She said work related fatalities rose from 88 to 126 over the same period.
The Minister said that government has shown commitment to improving safety and health in workplaces by ratifying key ILO Convention on OSH.
She also said that President Hakahinde Hichilema has indicated that human and social development is essential to maintaining a health and skilled population.
This years theme was ‘Acting together to build a positive safety and health culture.’
