The Zambia weightlifting federation has elected Gilbert Mono as president of the federation.
And Chomba Mwenya of Nchanga gymnasium has been voted as Vice President and she becomes the first woman vice president in the history of weightlifting in Zambia.
Ms Mwenya has been ushered in to balance gender equality in sports administration as the federation stands up to its values of equality in sports administration.
And Nigel Kunda of Solwezi was elected as treasurer taking of the federation.
The federation aspires to seeing the sport of weightlifting rise to Olympic standard participation.
The federation has good standing with the international mother bodies, and receives support in terms of capacity building programmes as well as technical backup with some equipment donated to the federation.
The international weightlifting federation has again donated sets and the same shall be given to affiliated gyms that shall be identified.
The federation’s programme is to ensure the sport gets to grassroots by encouraging school boys and girls to take up the sport of weightlifting to keep the sport alive in Zambia.
The federation past President Amon Masala left the Presidency after his election to the National Olympics committee of Zambia as board member.
The weightlifting federation held its annual general meeting last weekend and ushered in the new executive committee.
