A total of 21 cooperatives and clubs from Nchanga constituency have received empowerment under the 2019 Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Speaking yesterday at the hand over ceremony held at Chingola’s civic centre, Nchanga Member of Parliament Derricky Chilundika urged the recipients to utilize the money received accordingly.

Mr Chilundika said that the UPND decided to disburse the funds from 2019 because the Government wants to empower Zambians as soon as possible.

He said that the funds received are grants that entails that the recipients will not pay back.

“What is required from you is to utilize these funds, we do not want you to pay back but work hard and employ yourselves through the funds, if found unproductive, you will be blacklisted from the empowerment list,” he said

Mr Chilundika who is also Luapula Province Minister also urged other clubs and cooperatives that have not registered to do so.

He said that the funds are for every citizen, irrespective of political affiliation.

And Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe said these funds are meant for self development hence the need to use the monies efficiently as the local authority will be providing checks and balances.

Speaking at the same event, Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi urged the leaders of the clubs to avoid misappropriation of funds at all costs.

And speaking on behalf of the recipients, Josephine Kapasa expressed gratitude towards the government, saying the cooperatives will not disappoint the government
