Cabinet has approved the Draft Eighth National Development Plan (8thNDP), 2022-2026 which has been anchored on four key developmental pillars in order to achieve “Socio-Economic Transformation for Improved Livelihoods.”
Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda said the pillars are Economic Transformation and Job Creation, Human and Social Development, Environmental Sustainability, and Good Governance Environment.
She said the 8thNDP is a successor plan to the Seventh National Development Plan.
Ms Kasanda said the 8th NDP will be the framework through which national development aspirations toward actualisation of the Vision 2030 will be attained.
She said in line with the National Planning and Budgeting Act, the Plan will guide the development agenda for the country by way of providing specific strategies and programmes for the attainment of desired national development outcomes over the period 2022 to 2026.
Ms Kasanda said it will also be the basis for the formulation of all subsequent annual budgets and medium-term budget plans for the same period.
She says the Draft 8th NDP has been anchored on the principle of decentralisation by devolution so as to ensure the attainment of its objectives in line with the UPND Manifesto, the blue-print for national development in the next 5 years.
Ms Kasanda said during the same Meeting, Cabinet also approved the hosting of the Innovation Africa 2022 Summit to be held in Lusaka from November 15th to 18th, 2022.
She said the Innovation Africa Summit which started in 2012, is a gathering that provides an international meeting place for educationists, businesses, innovators, researchers and funding experts to network, share knowledge and develop new ideas in Education and ICT.
She said it is in the interest of Government to attract as many international Summits, Conferences and Meetings, in order to earn the much-needed foreign exchange associated with hosting such events and also as a way to promote tourism.
