The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Borniface Nalishiwa says that despite Zambia having a National Productivity Policy, there are still many impediments towards full realization of its objectives.
Mr Nalishiwa has disclosed that an appropriate legal framework is necessary to enable the ministry to effectively promote and facilitate productivity measurement, match job seekers to work opportunities through vocational and career counseling among other objectives.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Director National Productivity Development, Cyprian Mayamba at the productivity legislation development retreat held at q-tee lodges, in Chilanga District.
Mr Nalishiwa stressed that the new dawn Government attaches great importance to productivity as pronounced by President Hakainde Hichilema in his address to the first session of the Thirteenth National Assembly.
The Permanent Secretary added that the broad policy direction of this new Government administration for the next five years will include, economic transformation and job creation, human and social development, environmental sustainability and good governance environment.
Mr Nalishiwa noted that while the Ministry deliberates on the various options for introducing legislation to regulate the promotion and management of productivity, there is need to focus on the country’s long-term vision of 2030.
He said the vision 2030 further stresses the need for exemplary work ethics, honesty, high human and ethical values, quality consciousness and the quest for excellence as well as decent work opportunities that ensure respect for fundamental human rights and principles.
