Zambia-EU to host economic fora

Zambia and the European Union will host an economic Forum aimed at enhancing and exploring trade and investment opportunities.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga said the focus of government is to have bilateral and multilateral investments that will bring value addition and skills transfer to Zambia.

Mr Mulenga said  raw materials has not given gain to Zambia because the finished products are priced ten times more.

He said the Economic Forum is meant to bring together entrepreneurs, corporate Institutions and innovators from both Zambia and the EU to discuss and explore investments and forge partnerships.

Mr Mulenga said the EU is a strategic investment and trade partner and has significantly contributed to Zambia’s sustainable growth in all sectors.

EU Head of Delegation to Zambia Jacek Jankowski said the goal is to generate private sector investment and business opportunities that foster economic growth and create jobs.

Mr Jankowski said the EU wishes to promote the development of sustainable products and services in the green economy.

And, Speaking at the same event, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Acting Director General Albert Halwampa said the objective of the Forum is to increase trade and investment flows between Zambia and the European Union.

The Economic Forum will be held in Lusaka from May 18 to 19, 2022 under the theme Economic transformation through green growth.
