Katete District Commissioner Michael Matebele 43, has died while two of his passages sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic accident.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the motor vehicle they were travelling on, a Toyota Mark two registration number ALK 5626 collided head-on with a Volvo truck registration number AJE 3869/ ALZ 9727T along Great East road at Chongwe weigh bridge.
Mr Hamoonga said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Mark two failed to keep to his near side hence collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
He said the two passengers sustained serious injuries namely Sebastian Musakama 36, and Denis Zimba age not known.
Mr Hamoonga said the body of the victim has been deposited in Chongwe District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.
The driver of the truck escaped unhurt.
