Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Stanley Kakubo says the vote taken by Zambia at the Special Emergency Session at the United Nations was against War and not against Russia.
Mr Kakubo said the vote is in line with Zambia’s foreign policy principles which respect the territorial integrity and political independence of any state and its boundaries.
Mr Kakubo said Zambia’s stance has always been consistent from the time of independence.
He said that Zambia is a signatory to the United Nations Charter that demands for all parties to allow for unhindered access to humanitarian assistance and respect for human rights.
The Minister said this in a ministerial statement to parliament to defend Zambia’s position at the 11th Emergency Special Session of the United Nations on 2nd March, 2022.
And, Mr Kakubo has disclosed to parliament that the treasury funded the evacuation of the students back to Zambia.
He said President Hakainde Hichilema Is concerned with the welfare of Zambians.
