Chililabombwe Council seize expired foods

By CHINOYI CHIPULU
Chililabombwe Municipal Council has seized expired goods and wrongly labelled drinks from two wholesalers worth K2970.
The local authority seized 27 cases of wrongly labelled Revin drink from Atheneon Engineering Limited at second class trading area and 72 cases of expired Bibs Cola drink from Makda Investment Limited in Kasumbalesa.
CMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga said this was  after a team of CMC Health Inspectors conducted their routine inspections.
” CMC has penalized two wholesalers for selling expired good and wrongly labelled drinks to members of the public,” she said.
Ms Mulenga said the Food Safety Act prohibits selling of any such products and Council has since penalized the owners of the wholesales.
“The expired goods from the wholesales have since been destroyed,” she said.
She  urged all business owners to desist from such trade as they risk being prosecuted.
She further urged  members of the public to be cautious and take time to read and understand the information provided on various products before buying.
