Zesco United to face eagles ABSA cup

Record winners Zesco United have been drawn against Green Eagles in the quarter finals of this year’s ABSA Cup getting underway next weekend.

The quarter finals are billed for Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

The Ndola side have won the ABSA Cup formerly Barclays Cup six times since the tournament was introduced in 2007.

According to the draws which were conducted yesterday in Lusaka, Zesco were pitted against Eagles, who will be eyeing to win the championship for the first time.

Zesco won the inaugural Barclays Cup championship in 2007 and won it for the first time under the new name in 2019.

Super Division leaders Red Arrows will battle it out with Nkwazi in the other all topflight affair.

Kitwe giants Nkana and Green Buffaloes have been handed some relatively easier assignments against National Division One envoys Lumwana Radiants and Napsa Stars in that order.

The four quarter final clashes will be played on Saturday and Sunday as double headers.

The semi-finals and final are scheduled for April in Lusaka.

Nkoloma Stadium will stage the Semis on April 2 while National Heroes Stadium hosting the final a fortnight later.

Defending champions Lusaka Dynamos did not qualify for this year’s edition.

Dynamos beat Zesco 3-1 on penalties after a barren draw in regulation time last year.
