Nchanga Member of Parliament Derrick Chilundika has officially handed over football kits to all the schools in his constituency.
Speaking during the hand over ceremony held at Kabundi Secondary School, Mr Chilundika said Chingola district has produced a good number of powerful footballers hence the donation to revamp sports in schools.
Among the donated items, are jerseys, socks and footballs.
He said sporting activities were slowly dying in young people which prompted him to come up with a plan together with all the wards councilors to see how best sports can be brought back to life.
The Member of Parliament who is also Luapula Province Minister also said Government has attached greater importance to education because they believe that education is the best equalizer.
“The Republican president is a beneficiary of free education during his time that is why he re-introduced free education of the policy,” he said.
Mr Chilundika has since called on teachers to work together with Government as it understands a lot of things that were very unprofessional influenced by politics and not teachers.
He reiterated Governments’ commitment of no political influence in the operations of technocrats.
Speaking at the same meeting, Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi said the district has been ragging behind in terms of sports due to lack of support.
He has expressed gratitude with the donation by the area Member of Parliament further calling on teachers to ensure that sports is revamped in schools.
And speaking on behalf of the district education board secretary, Ms Chilumanda said the donation has come at a time when the nation is looking for solution to many challenges.
She said sports helps in the development of pupils as well as a way of keeping fit.
Ms Chilumanda has called on the office of the MP to help in supplementing government’s efforts of free and quality education for every child.
And speaking on behalf of all the Head Teachers, Nchanga School of Exellence Head Teacher Chrispin Muleya said that the donation will go a long way in ensuring that pupils have the right football kits for football.
And a representative of pupil has thanked the MP for the kind gesture which will build confidence in pupils in terms of sports.
