The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) Kanchibiya constituency Lawmaker Sunday Chanda has called for more concerted efforts from well-wishers to come on board in order to give aid to the flood victims in the district.

Mr Chanda said that the heavy downpour that the country has experienced has left a lot of people homeless and churches damaged in his Constituency.

He said that Government is looking at ways or solution to prevent floods in future.

Mr Chanda has underscored the importance of planting trees that can serve as wind breakers in order to avoid such occurrences during the rainy season.

He said that there is need for residents living near river banks to leave such areas as they are prone to floods.

“We have a situation has you saw in the pictures here in Kanchibiya, where a lot of houses have collapsed due to heavy down fall of the rains, as a result of such disasters, we are working in conjunction with on Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to give help to the affected people,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with Independent Observer today, the Lawmaker has called on well-wishers to come to the plight of the affected residents so as to lessen the burden on the DMMU who have a huge task to handle disasters countrywide.
