Govt urged to come up with modalities to address high cost of living

By IREEN MULENGA
Social Economist Kelvin Chisanga has urged the Government to come up with modalities that will address the high cost of living in the country.

Mr Chisanga said that though the kwacha has moderately appreciated, there has been no change of food items.

Mr Chisanga is however cognizant that the appreciation of the kwacha cannot automatically mean that food items on the market will go down.

“With the standing order in focus, we need to look at a model that can work and in this case the model that can work is trying to bring the importers and remitting some of the products that we have on the market so that we don’t put pressure on the inflation levels,” he said.

He has since called on government to ensure that high prices of food items are prolonged.
