Government says it is engaging stakeholders including media owners on pitiful monthly wages that journalists are subjected to in the country.
Ministry of Information and Media Director and Spokesperson Thabo Kawana said currently, take home pays for scribes are pitiable.
Mr Kawana said this makes Journalist work compromised by those with financial capacity especially politicians to push certain propaganda.
He said Minister of Information and Media Chushi Kasanda has been categorical on the welfare of journalists and the desire to put up a minimum wage for their sector.
Mr Kawana said engagement between the Minister and the media owners has continued and that she has gone further to engage her counterpart at the Ministry of Labour to ascertain a minimum wage.
He also said Government will not issue broadcast licenses willy-nilly but will use a systems based approach as this may cause chaos.
Mr Kawana said there will be no shortcuts as the system requiring procedure of application and scrutiny for those intending to set-up media houses will continue to be implemented because this is part and parcel of Government.
