TopStar, ZNBC partner to televise the fight between Catherine and Kudakwashe

TopStar Communications has announced its partnership with Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), to televise the Super Bantamweight title fight between Catherine Phiri of Zambia and Kudakwashe Chiwedere of Zimbabwe on February 26 at Government Complex in Lusaka.

TopStar Chief Executive Officer John Zhuang says the Public Signal Distributor is pleased to be associated with the Super Bantamweight title fight as a way of promoting premium local content at an affordable fee to various household across the country.

In a speech read on his behalf by Marketing Manager, Akim Lungu, Zhuang hoped that the collaboration between TopStar, ZNBC and OQBP will be for the long term   and will be used as a vehicle to ensure that many households catch all the action on ZNBC TV3 for as low as ZMW 20 weekly and ZMW 50 monthly subscription.

“We are happy to sign this tripartite agreement between Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and as well as Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) for the partnership to televise this boxing tournament on ZNBC TV3, a channel which is exclusive to TopStar”.

“As you may be aware, Boxing is one of the most popular sports in the world apart from  football and basketball. As TopStar, we pride in providing premium quality content at an affordable fee to various households across the country. Access to quality local content is what we strive to provide using digital TV in 103 districts in Zambia,” he said.

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions Manager, Christopher Malunga said he was pleased of the coming on board of TopStar and ZNBC by making it possible to televise live the title fight on ZNBC TV3, especially in a time of Covid 19.

Malunga said OQBP have been working tirelessly to ensure the fight takes place and was cognisant of the fact that there was a budget of ZMW 649,000 of which part had had been raised.

“This is a very exciting occasion and I am happy that TopStar and ZNBC are coming on board by making sure that the fight is televised live on TV3.  This is a very good thing because we were worried as to whether we were going to manage in the Covid situation we are in”, he sad.

Trade Kings representative Vincent Masongo said his company was delighted to see that other sponsors such as TopStar and ZNBC coming on board, thereby easing the burden on the organizers.

ZNBC Marketing and Sales Director Susan Mwewa said the public broadcaster was glad to be part of the tripartite agreement and that the partnership will help fulfill ZNBC’s mandate to entertain the nation.

Mwewa also thanked Trade Kings Group of companies and other corporates to come on board as sports genres was a great source of entertainment to the Zambian Public.

“ZNBC is pleased to be part of this tripartite partnership agreement that will enable us to bring this entertainment to the public on our TV3 channel. We would also like to thank the corporate world and Trade Kings in particular for enabling this to happen and my appeal to the corporate world is to come on board to support this prestigious event.”
