Prepare storage facilities, farmers urged

By IREEN MULENGA
An agriculturist Frank Kayula has urged farmers to start preparing storage facilities of maize for the future harvest season to avoid wastage and inconveniences when harvest season approaches.

Dr Kayula said farmers must put the knowledge that the Ministry of agriculture had been inculcating in them on storage strategies into good use by starting the preparation in advance.

He said these include storing the maize in cribs further expressing gratitude that there’s no major challenge at the moment with regards to storage of maize because the maize has been offloaded to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

“My appeal to the farmers is to start preparing storage for maize in good time to avoid inconveniences when harvest season approaches,” he said.

Dr Kayula said that maize storage must be done in the properties that every farmer must follow.
