Five crew members of a fire truck which was on its way to respond to an emergency were last night injured after it was involved in an accident.

Lusaka City Council public relations manager Mwaka Nakweti said that the accident happened on Mungwi road at around 19:00 hours.

M s Nakweti said there were five crew members on board at the time of the accident and they were rushed to Matero Level One Hospital.

Speaking in statement, Ms Nakweti said four members were discharged and one is still admitted to the University Teaching Hospital.

“Lusaka City Council is saddened that yesterday one of our fire trucks was involved in a Road Traffic accident (RTA) along Mungwi Road at about 19:05 hours. The truck was destined for Lusaka West where the team was rushing to respond to an emergency when they met their fate,” she said.

Ms Nakweti said the fire truck was recovered from the accident scene and driven to Highways Section for determination of the extent of the damage.

“We want to thank the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Zambia Police Traffic Section for their input at the accident scene,” she said.
