Over 247 hectares of maize fields belonging to 117 farmers in Nangoma constituency in Central Province have been submerged.
Mumbwa District Commissioner Namukulo Hayumbu says about one point two hectares of Soybeans and 4.7-hectares of cotton fields have also been affected by floods.
Ms Hayumbu said the current flood situation being experienced in most parts of the country will affect the national food security.
She was speaking during a field visit to Myooye Agriculture camp with officials from the National Adaptation Planning Project under the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, in Nangoma.
And National Adaptation Planning Project Manager Joseph Mbinji said the recent tropical cyclone Ana, which the country experienced, has caused flooding in a number of areas.
Mr Mbunji said the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has been engaging various stakeholders particularly farmers that have been affected by floods to assess the extent of damage caused by floods and strengthening adaptation measures at medium to long term.
Mumbwa District Agriculture Coordinator Nicholas Mainza said there is need to assist farmers with early maturing maize seed varieties to enable them replant.
