2 perish, coffin damaged in fatal road accident

Two people have lost their lives in a road accident in Chingola after a Kitwe bound vehicle carrying a coffin with a dead body in it overturned.
The vehicle was ferrying the mourners for a burial procession  to Kitwe.
Copperbelt Acting Commanding Officer  Tresphord Kasale confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday that the deceased have not been identified but are aged between 45 and 50 years.
“The accident happened when the vehicle being driven from North to Southern direction due to excessive speed, lost control, went off the road and overturned.
“Involved was a lone motor vehicle, Noah registration number ACV 274 which was being driven by Sebastian Muma, 27 of Kawama Kitwe,” he said.
Mr Kasale said seven people among them Muma sustained injuries.
He said Muma and four others who were on board sustained multiple injuries and are admitted to Nchanga North General Hospital.
According to eye witnesses, the mishap occurred after the driver lost control due to excessive speed forcing the vehicle to be carried off the road.
After the vehicle overturned, the coffin got damaged resulting in the the dead body to be exposed.
Meanwhile,a-25-year old man is nursing serious injuries after been hit by a truck in a hit and run accident near Luanshya turnoff.
Mr Kasale said the pedestrian Lloyd Mwape of house number G187 Wusakile Kitwe sustained fractured legs and is admitted to Thompson hospital Luanshya.
“Also involved was unknown truck driven by unknown driver who did not stop. The accident happened when the truck was being driven along the said road from east to west direction and due to excessive speed the driver lost control of the truck and hit a pedestrian who was off the road,” he said.
