The United Party for National Development has retained the Kabwata parliamentary seat.
UPND’s candidate Andrew Tayengwa polled 13,572 votes against his closest rival PF’s Clement Tembo who polled 11,192 votes.
Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) returning officer Hellen Mubita declared Mr Tayengwa as duly elected MP at around 04:10 at Saint Patrick’s School results center.
Mr Tayengwa thanked President Hichilema and the UPND alliance members for the massive support during campaigns.
He said he will stick to his campaign promises and work with the people of Kabwata in fostering development.
Speaking at the same after event UPND Chairman for elections Gary Nkombo said the party will remain focused towards various developmental projects in the constituency.
He also said the loose by the PF in Kabwata is clear sign that the opposition party is no longer popular.
Other candidates that contested are Tripher Ng’andu of the Socialist Party, who polled 1, 849 votes while Chilufya Tayali of the Economic Equity Party who got 420 votes.
