Police IG advises political players

Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba has advised all political parties participating in tomorrow’s Kabwata By-elections to adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Process Act.

Mr Kajoba said more police officers have been deployed on the ground to maintain law and order throughout the voting process at all polling stations under Kabwata Constituency.

Mr Kajoba said it is the duty of Police to create a safe and secure environment for all participating electoral stakeholders irrespective of their political affiliation or organisations.

Mr Kajoba said the Police will not tolerate illicit practices such as political violence and other electoral related offences.

“It is gratifying to mention that so far, Police have not recorded any political violence or malpractice related case as campaigns by all Political party players have been going on peacefully and incident free, I want to commend all Political party leaders taking part in the Kabwata By-Election for exhibiting high levels of maturity, tolerance and respect for the law,” he said.

Mr Kajoba has also urged citizens to see to it that peace prevails at all times, as this an individual responsibility of every well-meaning Zambian.

He also warned would be perpetrators of confusion to reconsider their intentions as the Police will not tolerate any form of lawlessness and perpetrators and those involved will be dealt with accordingly.

Mr Kajoba said the rule of law will always be applied firmly and fairly, and that all culprits found wanting must be dealt with severely.
