Schools in Chingola charging fees warned

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Chingola Constituency Member of Parliament Chipoka Mulenga has sternly warned Government schools in his constituency to desist from charging any fees.

Mr Chipoka said that some named schools in Chingola Constituency are charging pupils’ different amounts of money for recruitment.

He said this is not right and has to stop immediately, stating Government has offered free Education and it is free education.

“Parents should only buy school uniforms, shoes, bags and books for their children, if any school is doing this, please stop and refund the parents, the New Dawn Government is committed to fulfilling its promises to the people,” he said.

The Chingola Constituency Lawmaker has also appealed to parents to report to the relevant authorities so that they can ascertain whether the charges are legitimate or not.

“Parents should know that free education is free and no Government school is to charge any fee, as parents you should first consult the relevant authorities rather than paying and complaining later,” he said.

And Chingola District Commissioner Raphael Chimupi said that President Hichilema has clearly stated that School fees will be paid by Government.

He said that the only learners to pay are those writing external examinations and GCE.

Mr Chimupi encouraged the parents being charged fees to report the matter to the District Education Board and his office if necessary.

Yesterday, reports from some schools in the district emerged that certain schools are charging recruitment fees.
