Former Civic Leader Manase Siwila has urged leaders on the Copperbelt to empower people living with disabilities in their areas.
Mr Siwila said in an interview yesterday that people with disabilities are mostly left out and are not given opportunities to fend for themselves therefore they need to be supported financially.
“I am imploring Leaders in the Province to consider empowering persons with disabilities in their respective areas. These people are usually neglected,” said Mr Siwila,who is a former Pamodzi Ward Councilor.
He said with the increment of the Community Development Fund (CDF) the disabled must be among the beneficiaries when the time to roll out the funds comes.
“I am calling on Members of Parliament and Councillors not to pay a blind eye to these people. I have noticed that most civic leaders empower the abled people that are capable of funding themselves leaving out people that are unable to fund for themselves,” he said.
The new dawn Government has increased the CDF by more than 100 percent.
