The Luanshya Municipal Council has two unclaimed bodies deposited at Thompson Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
Luanshya Council Public Relations Manager Gideon Thole has appealed to members of the public in the District who are missing family members, friends or relatives to search for the missing persons at Thompson District Hospital mortuary.
Mr Thole said the bodies have been handed over to the local authority for burial by the Zambia Police who have failed to trace relatives of the victims.
He said Luanshya Municipal Council is by law mandated to facilitate for the disposal of unclaimed bodies after informing the general public before affecting the burial process.
Mr Thole said the letter from the Zambia Police Service in Luanshya did not give any further details about the victims.
“The letter was only seeking permission from the Luanshya Municipal Council management to authorize the dispose of of the two bodies in accordance to the public health regulations,” he said.
