Kasumbalesa Street Vendors to Vacate

By IREEN MULENGA
Chililabombwe Municipal Council has directed all street vendors in Kasumbalesa to vacate and occupy designated trading places.

Chililabombwe Mayor Lucky Sichone said street vendors were not only at risk of being hit by oncoming vehicles but were also contributing to the indiscriminate disposal of waste at the border.

He said that vending was hampering the Council’s efforts to keep the town clean thereby risking the lives of the residents.

“Vendors are contributing to the narrowing of the road there by causing conjunction to the tracks when there passing and the Council has no option but ask them to vacate to trading places,” he said.

The Mayor said according to Statutory Instrument No. 12 of 2018 (Street Vending and Nuisances) street vending was prohibited by law and those found wanting would face the wrath of the law.

He said this in a statement issued by Assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga.
