Use land development fund, urges Govt

By Maimbo Mweemba
Lands and Natural Resources Minister Elijah Muchima has urged the Livingstone City Council to use the Land Development Fund under the ministry to develop roads in the rural parts of the district.

Mr Muchima said it is appalling for the Tourist Capital to have underdeveloped parts with bad roads.

He said that the interest of Government is to see equal distribution of development and that local authority must plan to improve rural areas.

Mr Muchima said he will engage other ministries on the urgent need to work on the Sakubita Bridge which he described as a death trap.

He was speaking in Livingstone when he toured Sakubita Village where he also inspected selected bridges.

And Livingstone Mayor, Constance Muleabai said the Government needs to urgently help the residents of Sakubita Village with improved roads and bridges for them to access social amenities that are not provided in their area.

Ms Mu said the rain season is the most challenging part of the year for the residents because they cannot access the hospital in Livingstone City while pupils cannot go to school.
