Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has confirmed a breakout of foot and mouth disease in the district.
So far 20 Cattle from 3 Kraals in Babizhi Veterinary Camp in Chief Muchiya area are exhibiting signs typical of Foot and Mouth Disease.
The Member of Parliament has confirmed that a definitive laboratory test on the animals has confirmed the disease.
Mr Mutinta has pointed out the previous regime’s lack of consistence in vaccinating cattle against Foot and Mouth Disease as a major contributing factor.
During the tour of Duty, in a briefing with the veterinary staff, it was revealed that animals were last vaccinated in 2017 against Foot and Mouth Disease.
The MP has however advised the affected farmers not to worry as the disease has very low mortality rate and everything will be done to contain it
He said that the Government through the Department of Veterinary Services has procured Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine and all cattle in ltezhi-tezhi constituency are expected to get the free vaccine soon.
Itezhi-tezhi has one of the largest numbers of cattle population currently standing at over 145000 in Central Province.
