The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says the Agency has only 60 Road Traffic Inspectors countrywide.
RTSA Chief Executive Officer, Gladwell Banda said the current numbers of Road Traffic Inspectors is inadequate to effectively carry out road patrols.
He has disclosed that RTSA intends to increase the number of Road Traffic Inspectors in 2022 in order to improve road patrols and reduce accidents.
Mr Banda said the Agency will also revive the use of volunteers to help in conducting road taffic inspections.
He said that from the preliminary report, the number of road traffic accidents recorded this festive season is low compared to 2020.
Mr Banda said that reducing road traffic accidents is a responsibility of every citizen, hence the need for concerted efforts.
And, Some motorists and members of the public talked to have praised the Road Transport and Safety Agency-RTSA for intensifying patrols during the festive period.
