The UPND in Ndola has commended the New Dawn Administration’s move to pay benefits to all retirees across the country.
President Hakainde Hichilema said Government has started paying off retirees who spent many years waiting for their pension.
Mr Hichilema said in the 2022 National budget, Government has allocated K2.1 billion Kwacha to dismantle the outstanding arrears.
And UPND Spokesperson David Zimba said that Government has shown sincerity and consistence in the actualization of the pronouncements.
“Today we have been told that the Government has stated paying retirees, this is milestone or a dream come true to all the retirees in this country including those who are still saving in public service, this is giving hope now,” he said.
Mr Zimba has described the move by Government as one that will guarantee those on the verge of retirement of getting their benefits once they retire.
He said that if the Government remains consistence in paying retirees it will encourage the general citizenry to pay tax.
