We have more than enough Maize-Govt

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Government through the Ministry of Agriculture has assured that the country has more maize in stock than it would need for a whole year.
Agriculture Minister Reuben Phiri says this guarantees food security despite the poor rainfall pattern experienced so far.
Mr Phiri also said the Ministry is analyzing what to offload on the market from the storage facilities if any on a monthly basis.
He also said that the country has about 2 million metric tonnes of maize in storage facilities to date.
The Minister was responding to a question from Movement for Democratic Change MDC Deputy Media Director Edmond Miti who wanted to find out what plans Government has to mitigate the expected food crisis arising from the drought experienced in the country.
“We are seriously analyzing what to offload , if any, on a monthly basis, the good news is that we have more maize, in stock, than we need for a whole year,” he said.
