Five people have died on the spot while six others have sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident which happened on Great East road.
Police spokespersoon Rae Hamoonga said in a statement to the media that the accident happened after an Isuzu Van registration number ALZ 3236 driven by Vincent Phiri aged 45 and a Toyota Corolla registration number ABE 9564 driven by Charles Tembo aged 38, Collided at Mulola area on Great East road.
“The accident happened on December 23, 2021 when the driver of the Isuzu was improperly overtaking and in the process went and collided with an oncoming Toyota Corolla.The driver of the Toyota Corolla together with four passengers sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot while the driver of the Isuzu van plus five passengers who were on board sustained serious injuries and are admitted to Mumpansha mission hospital where they are receiving treatment,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said deceased have been identified as Charles Tembo, Oreen Banda, George Tembo, Giftopher Lupoto, and Chalwe Zulu.
He said the bodies have been deposited in Mumpansha mission Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
