The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested 13 people in Muchinga Province in connection with the illegal cultivation of cannabis.
Speaking to the media in Chipata yesterday shortly after the operation, DEC Deputy Public Relation Officer Kamufisa Manchishi, said the area has been characterized with the illegal cultivation of cannabis in huge quantities.
Mr Manchishi says a combined team of DEC and State Police have manged to recover 160 bags of cannabis.
He says of the total, 59 bags are 90 Kg’s while 101 bags are 50 kg’s.
The DEC deputy PRO adds that 2 and half 50 kg bags of cannabis seed were also ceased in the operation.
And Mr Manchishi says DEC will continue with the operations, stating that illegal cultivation of cannabis in against the law.
