The Labour Office in Chitambo has recovered K73.280.00 in a mediated labour dispute in which on behalf of employees.
This is in a matter in which Provident Investment Limited, a company sub-contracted by NAPSA to do 50 low cost housing units in Chitambo District was summoned for the non-payments of wages to employees for two months.
In a statement by Chitambo Assistant Labour Officer, Dauti Jalandi has revealed that the employer in mention was summoned of which after it was found not complying, a commitment form was signed promising to make the payments on November 15, 2021.
Mr Jalandi also said that follow-ups were made after the payment was not done as agreed.
He said that at this point, the Labour Office was then compiled to take action by ensuring that workers were paid their dues accorded to the employees as stipulated in the Employment Code Act no.3 of 2019.
On December3, 2021 the employer paid K73.280.00 to the employees.
The Assistant Labour Officer has since advised by the company to have a log book in which employees should be endorsing their signatures for records unlike the situation where employees are registered on the daily basis by having their faces recognized.
He also cautioned the company to pay the days claimed by employees and ensure to always pay on time.
Mr Jalandi instructed the employees to exhaust all channels of communication in the organization before reporting grievances to other relevant authorities and ensure that they take a keen interest in understanding the Labour laws.
