Govt concerned over attack on Mpika Radio

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda says that Government is disturbed by reports of attack on Mpika FM Radio station by suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) carders.

This was during a live phone-in programme on which an opposition Member of Parliament was being featured.

Ms Kasanda who is also Minister of Information and Media said the New Dawn Leadership prides in having eradicated cadre hooliganism and takes strong exception to anyone engaging in the vice.

She said Government demands that the political Leadership at the district level takes responsibility over the unfortunate event.

Ms Kasanda said the Leadership should work with the police to bring the perpetrators of the unfortunate event to book.

“Government wishes to reiterate its position that it stands for media freedom and will not tolerate attacks on media houses by anyone for featuring any person on their programmes” he said.

She said any person aggrieved by the conduct of a broadcasting station should follow the laid down complaint procedure as provided in the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Act.

Ms Kasanda said lawlessness will not be tolerated as the UPND Government is fully committed to non-selective application of the law.
