Malaria preventable-Haimbe

Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe says the current death rate triggered by malaria can be prevented to save the country from devastating social and economic effects.

Mr Haimbe who is also Lusaka Central Member of Parliament said this can be done by implementing strategic interventions which include the use of mosquito bed nets and spraying of households.

Speaking when he officiated at a Malaria Elimination Sensitization in Lusaka’s Bauleni Township, Mr Haimbe also praised religious leaders for coming together to supplement government’s effort in the malaria elimination agenda.

The Lusaka Central Member of Parliament said government has shown keen interest in prioritizing malaria and that efforts by religious leaders remain key to fast tracking elimination.

And, Malaria Elimination Chilenje Sub-district Representative, Agness Mbewe said Covid-19 has contributed to the rise in numbers of malaria cases this year.

Ms Mbewe said this is because people shun away from seeking early malaria diagnosis from health facilities.

This year’s Malaria Sensitization Match has been held under the theme Community Involvement is key to Achieving Zero Malaria.
