President Hakainde Hichilema says there is need to remember heroes who selflessly sacrificed their lives in defending the values of freedom and liberty.
President Hichilema said that as veterans and their families continue to bear witness to the dedication and duty of others who have served proudly in the Armed Forces with distinction and honor.
He also paid tribute to the nine surviving World war veterans as well as the 37 widows and direct dependents.
President Hichilema said the country is proud of the troops who are still in active service at home, and on the frontline in peace keeping missions abroad.
He said this in his Facebook post earlier today
Later, President Hichilema led dignitaries to lay wreaths in honor of the armed forces who died in the line of duty since the end of the First World War.
Zambia Army Director Religious and Moral Services Shadreck Mwale encouraged all citizens of Zambia to pray and honor all those who served and continue to serve the country in search of peace.
Reverend Mwale said in the homily that there is need for peace to be maintained, and he is hopeful that President Hichilema will be a watchman of peace because it is a key component of sustainable development.
